The Bergen Aquarium. Home to Europe's most extensive and finest marine fauna collection and has the largest collection of fish too. Having a great view of Bergen's port, the aquarium is located on Nordnes. See the penguins and seals play in their respective pools. As seawater is pumped through the aquarium from a depth of 130 metres it allows herring to be seen by the public.
Guided tours are available, and open all day from 9am to 7pm it is easily found by a short walk from the Fish Market.
The Fish Market is a great place to try out some of the freshest shellfish from oysters to boiled shrimp they have it all, including fruit and vegetables too. Even if you don't have a taste for fish, take some interesting photographs of the displays for the memories. Open for 3 hours longer during the summer it starts from 7am to 4pm.
If you are a rambler, park the Car Hire Bergen at the foot of Mount Ulriken, around 5kms from Bergen's centre. It takes around 4 hours to climb up and at the summit use the free telescopes for a wonderful view of the city. If the cable cars are running then Ulriken Mountain Café will be open for lunch and refreshments. During the summer it holds outdoor concerts and serves BBQ food too.
Bergen Airport, Flesland is located around 12 miles from the city centre. Having only one terminal it is easy to find your way around. It is very modern, compact and well signposted too. There are few restaurants, which are quite expensive, 10 Euros for a slice of apple pie and bottle of water, makes Bergen the most expensive airport in Norway.
