Car Hire Stavanger Mini Guide
Having many places of interest, Stavanger is a popular city for tourists and visitors. Take a look at some of the highlights to visit:
- Stavanger Cathedral. Park your rental vehicle and compare how modern it is to the grand medieval cathedral. Still being used today, it is a unique church. Built in 1125 in typical Anglo-Norman style, overlooked by Bishop Reinald of Winchester. Admission is free and it can be found on Domkirkeplassen.
- Norwegian Petroleum Museum. Encounter the story of how oil and gas are extracted from under the North Sea then refined and utilised for many uses. Watch a 3D film and watch as it takes you, in a virtual fashion, out onto the oil rig platforms. Petroleum being the main reasoning behind Norway's wealth is shown in a fascinating way.
- Visit Stavanger Maritime Museum. Take your hire car to Nedre Strandgate 17-19 and see the wealth of history surrounding the south-western tip of Norway's coast. Here you can see articles, documentation and photographs of ship building, shipping and its coastal background. There are a few boats and sailing ships of yesteryear to see too.
- Old Stavanger - The olden part of the city is a wonderful sight. See the wooden cottages and houses hailing from the 18th century. It was spared from destruction amazingly from WWII which damaged most of the central area of Stavanger. All of the houses are in use today and many café's are available to sit and people watch.
