With Tromso city centre being the largest wooden housed area north of Trondheim it has many attractions which are perfect for tourists or passing visitors. The city centre houses neoclassical architecture and is well known for its beautiful buildings.
The Botanical Gardens have Alpine and Arctic plants from all around the world. Being the globes most northern botanical garden there are plants here that can only grow in such climates as this one provides. Medicinal plants, blue poppies from the Himalayas and leweisias from the Rocky Mountians are all together.
Park up your Car Hire Tromso vehicle and take a Fjellheisen cable car to the top of Storsteinen Mountain. Being able to see the Northern Lights or the midnight sun from here is easier being 420 metres above sea level. Truly a breathtaking experience.

The cultured traveller, The Arctic Cathedral may be of some interest. It is Tromso's famous landmark whose assembly was encouraged by Norway's northern landscape. The highlight of the cathedral is the enormous glass mosaic. The summer's Midnight Sun Concerts are held here and are a lead up to seeing the midnight sun.
Being the largest airport in northern Norway, Tromso Airport in 2006 it served 1,557,000 passengers. Situated 3.1kms from the city centre and on the east side of the Tromsoya Island. Most travellers go through the capital Oslo, but Tromso does fly to London Gatwick, Riga Latvia and Murmansk Russia. Having one terminal which was replaced in 1977 and again in 1998 making it more modern.
