The Botanical Gardens have Alpine and Arctic plants from all around the world. Being the globes most northern botanical garden there are plants here that can only grow in such climates as this one provides. Medicinal plants, blue poppies from the Himalayas and leweisias from the Rocky Mountians are all together. Park up your hire car and take a Fjellheisen cable car to the top of Storsteinen Mountain. Being able to see the Northern Lights or the midnight sun from here is easier being 420 metres above sea level. Truly a breathtaking experience.
Visit Polaria the arctic aquarium. Travel there in style and warmth of a rental vehicle and see the stars of the show; bearded seals. They are incredibly intelligent and as they only live in arctic waters it is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to see them. Many tanks of fish from the Barents Sea are also on show.
The cultured traveller, The Arctic Cathedral may be of some interest. It is Tromso's famous landmark whose assembly was encouraged by Norway's northern landscape.
